Every Thursday we offer ideas for how people can give back in the community. This week’s suggestion is to help those who are helping the less fortunate in our community. For this week’s Give Back Thursday, we suggest you Help Grove City Community Food Pantry with their Thanksgiving distribution!
Thanksgiving is a bountiful time when people make too much food, eat too much, and feel like a stuffed turkey themselves! However, it isn’t this way for everyone. There are many factors that can affect families and individuals, like job loss and medical conditions, or just unfortunate times. These factors can weigh heavily and negatively impact finances. In addition, people may be scared about how they will pay their bills, or where their next meal may come from.
But, the Grove City Community Food Pantry is somewhere people can turn to for assistance with food. Did you know that our Food Pantry does holiday food distributions for its clients, including one for Thanksgiving? Families and individuals in our community should not have to go without a special Thanksgiving meal. Therefore, for Give Back Thursday, we encourage everyone to help the Grove City Community Food Pantry.
Currently, the Grove City Community Food Pantry is collecting food for their Thanksgiving distribution which is set for November 20th and 21st. As a result, this will help them provide for the 480 families they are currently serving in the Grove City Area School District. Please consider helping by picking up additional items when grocery shopping. Or, organize your own food drive with family, friends, co-workers/staff, etc.
Items Requested for the Thanksgiving Distribution
- Turkeys weighing 10 to 12 pounds
- Fresh or packaged instant potatoes
- Stuffing mix
- Fresh or canned yams and sweet potatoes
- Pumpkin (canned)
- Pie filling (canned)
- Evaporated milk (canned)
- Shelf-stable pie crust
- Pie crust mixes
- Disposable foil roasters
- Cookie mixes and cookie decorations
- Cranberry sauce
- Canned green beans
- Packaged gravy
- Creamed soup
