Armstrong will soon kick off its Seventh Annual Avenge Hunger Month campaign to fight hunger across its service territory. The 2024 Avenge Hunger Month collection window begins on August 26 and continues through October 6. The timing for Avenge Hunger Month is deliberate. September is National Hunger Action Month, and history has proven that the need for food is higher during the last quarter of the year.

Local Armstrong stores will collect non-perishable food and monetary donations for local feeding programs. The resources collected will help to supply over 200 community feeding programs throughout the Armstrong footprint in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky.

To add a little competition and excitement, the 13 local Armstrong systems, the Customer Service Center, the Corporate Office will participate in a friendly competition to see which locations can collect the most food, money and volunteer hours to support community feeding programs.

Grove City, PA – Much of the success of Avenge Hunger Month comes from community partners who help collect donations. Locally, during the collections since 2018, Armstrong’s Grove City system has collected 6,850 lbs. of food and $4,500 with the help of our community partners and our employees. This year, County Market and Grove City Area School District will be two of our largest partners. In past years, County Market has collected over $1,000 for Grove City Community Food Pantry through the selling of Armstrong’s Avenge Hunger Star Cut-Outs. We will be adding a fourth feeding program to our distribution of food and money collected this year. This collection will be split between Grove City Community Food Pantry, The Haven (Mercer, PA), Lakeview Area Helping Hands and Slippery Rock Feed My Sheep.

Armstrong’s Breaking Bread initiative began in 2010 to feed those who struggle with food insecurity within the communities Armstrong serves. The first Avenge Hunger Month was held in September 2018 to help bring more awareness to Breaking Bread and generate more donations to help local feeding programs. Over the past six years, through the annual Avenge Hunger Month drive, Armstrong has collected over 166,000 pounds of food and nearly $90,000 in monetary donations to share with community feeding programs.
