Armstrong has kicked off the second annual Avenge Hunger Month food drive to provide food and other resources to community food pantries. As part of their ongoing Breaking Bread initiative, donations can be dropped off at local Armstrong stores throughout the month of September. The timing for Avenge Hunger Month is deliberate; September is National Hunger Action Month and the need for food is higher during the last quarter of the year.
The inaugural Avenge Hunger Month, in September 2018, provided nearly 50,000 pounds of food to almost 200 community feeding programs across the Armstrong footprint. One of the things that received support last year was the need for pop top cans. Grove City Community Food Pantry Executive Director, Traci Gerard stated that “all of the pop top cans donated helped provide easy access to food for kids to eat after school. It also helped our homeless and emergency assistance programs. The food collected lasted us well over two months, feeding over 560 families each month. We are so thankful for the support of Armstrong.”
Armstrong’s goal for the 2019 Avenge Hunger Month is to collect 60,000 pounds of food. In addition to collecting food, Armstrong employees will also volunteer at local food pantries to help with the mission to feed the hungry. Studies show that hunger exists in every county in America and one in five children is at risk of hunger.
Melinda Weaver, local Armstrong General Manager, shared that “Armstrong is proud to be a supporter of the local food pantries. The commitment and energy our employees and customers put forth to support this effort is incredible, to say the least!
Your local Armstrong Store is located at 123 Industrial Dr. Grove City, PA and food donations can be dropped off Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8-5 and Thursday’s 9-5. The Avenge Hunger food drive ends October 4, 2019.
