Every Monday we like to shine a spotlight on one of our Chamber Members. This week’s Member Feature shines that spotlight on All Seasons Temporaries, Inc. Read the following Q&A to learn more about this business!
Please provide a short description of your business and what you do.
All Seasons Temporaries, Inc. (ASTI) is a recruiting firm that helps fulfill needs of both those seeking jobs and those seeking employees. Our job is to understand what job seekers and employers are looking for and match up qualified candidates with available job openings based on experience, skills, education or professional background. Our services include advertising, pre-employment screenings, worker’s compensation, holiday and vacation pay for qualified employees and a professional staff to answer all of your questions. We have recently implemented new, shorter contract terms with various rates! We have two locations to meet your needs. A full time office in Franklin and a part time office in Grove City. Our business is involved with Rotary and United Way.
What is the story behind your business or how it got started?
ASTI’s doors opened in 1992 in Franklin under the ownership of Mark Hale. Kathy Ruffing, the current owner (since 2015), worked as the Office Manager under Mr. Hale for 23 years, gaining much knowledge in the industry and building many relationships. After establishing the Franklin office, Mr. Hale later opened an office in Grove City. Mr. Hale recruited an excellent Office Manager at GC, as she brought much talent and experience to the team. After 20+ years, she then moved into retirement after training her successor, who was able to provide excellent customer service during her time with ASTI as well. Both offices were able to grow the client and employee base, eventually serving 6 counties.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your business/services?
One thing we believe people don’t realize about our services is the fact that most of our jobs are actually long term positions, many of which have the opportunity to turn into full time, permanent positions. We continue to offer short term, temporary assignments as well, however, we have found that employers are more interested in utilizing our services in order to assist in recruiting for long term positions. A few other fun facts about ASTI; our employees pay no fees, we pay weekly and employees have the option of receiving a check or direct deposit.
Can you tell us about a memorable or favorite customer/client experience?
We continue to thank our employees and employers on a regular basis, let’s be honest, without them, where would we be? Every month we honor either an employer or an employee. During the months we honor our employees, we draw a name and we send the lucky winner a gift card. During the months we honor an employer, we send something from Edible Arrangements or purchase pizza for them. Right now, we are doing a Friday Funday giveway, anyone who applies with us on Friday or makes an appt. on Friday to come in on Monday gets their name into a drawing for a gift card. Incentive and appreciation go a long way in this day and age, we need to continue to promote both.
How has COVID-19 affected your business?
COVID-19’s initial impact was that of the same for many businesses, reduction in workforce which led to reduction in income. But today, the bigger obstacle is getting people to want to go back into the workforce. We work with our clients to make sure they are offering safe environments and have COVID-19 procedures and protocols in place, but even that isn’t fool proof. From the initial shutdown until May 8th, our doors were locked. We were unable to recruit, we did lose some clients (mostly temporarily) and we had to reduce our own in house staff. Though we are fewer in number (for now), our dedicated staff has taken on extra responsiblites which has allowed us to maintain both offices. From learning all the new policies that apply to COVID-19 down to the cleaning of our work place and work spaces, it has been overwhelming to say the least. While we are currently moving forward in a positive direction, we still have not been able to meet the necessary criteria to completely rebuild our in house staff, but we are grateful for where we are today and will continue to be positive about the future. Personally, I feel that though COVID-19 has had a negative impact on many lives, I do believe we have all seen a new sense of support for the local communities and it’s members, especially small ones, and that is a great place to start recovery.
How can the community support you now and going forward?
While our doors were locked, we did weekly giveaways to keep everyone engaged through our Facebook page. All gift cards we gave away were from local, small businesses. We know COVID-19 continues to impact many businesses, especially small businesses, so we encourage everyone to continue to play a part in supporting local.
Is there anything else you’d like us to talk about?
Here at ASTI, we celebrate the victories and we take the set backs as they come and do our best to keep encouraging growth and reminding people of the possibilities! We look forward to serving job seekers and those seeking employees for many years to come.
