Blood products like blood and platelets are in high demand to save lives. When an emergency strikes, blood products are needed. A single donation can make all the difference to the person receiving it. A blood donation does not take a long time to give. It also does not have a big impact on the person giving it. The big impact is with the recipient.
Recent cold weather snaps and winter storms have affected our country. These have had a significant impact on the blood products in supply. The American Red Cross is urging healthy individuals, especially those with type O blood, to donate. This will make sure that blood products are available for people who need them, especially in emergency situations.
For this week’s Give Back Thursday suggestion, we offer an appeal for people to donate blood products. This will not take a lot of time, but can save a life. You will probably never know the person who you are saving, but the knowledge is there. Your donation could save a life. Be a hero and donate today!
The American Red Cross is currently encouraging donations of blood and platelets. Those people who donate between March 15 and 26 will receive a Red Cross t-shirt while supplies last. Make an appointment to give blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor app, visiting redcrossblood.org, or calling 1-800-REDCROSS. There are many local blood drive opportunities being safely held that you can participate with.
