On Thursdays we offer ways people can give back in the community. For this week’s Give Back Thursday, we suggest you Make Valentines for local nursing home residents. Read on for all of the details.
Valentine’s Day is all about spreading love and kindness. As children, we often exchanged valentines with our friends and classmates. To give and receive valentines with friends and classmates allowed everyone to feel included and spread kindness. They were often decorated with images of our favorite superheroes or cartoon characters. Some came complete with sweet confections like lollipops or hearts. As we grew up, our valentines may have focused in on those we felt special affection for. Do you still exchange special valentines?
This week’s plan!
For this week’s Give Back Thursday, we suggest you Make Valentines! These can be completely hand made or they can be purchased. In remembering the excitement we felt when we received our valentines from friends and classmates, we offer this as an idea to brighten someone’s day. Nursing homes are filled with residents who would appreciate receiving a valentine. They do not have to know you personally, to appreciate receiving a loving reminder that they are thought of. You can sign them with your name, or you can sign “Your Valentine” or “A Special Friend” or other moniker. The idea is to send a special reminder that there is love in this world and they are remembered.
Will you participate in spreading love by making valentines? This is a simple task that anyone can do. It only takes a little time, a little effort, and a little love to brighten someone else’s day. If you have kids, get them involved! Their heartfelt creations often bring an extra big smile to someone’s face!
