Every Thursday we offer suggestions for how people can give back in the community. For this week’s Give Back Thursday, we suggest supporting the Stockings for Veterans Drive. Although the recipients of this effort will be outside of the Grove City community, we think this is something everyone should support. Read on for more details.
With Veterans Day having occurred this week, we can’t help but think about our veterans and all they have given in the name of freedom and our Country. Their bravery should be respected and honored. However, there are some veterans out there who may feel invisible, hopeless, and forgotten. Some may be living on the streets by circumstance or by choice. Whatever has brought them to this point, they should not be cast aside and forgotten.
This week’s Give Back Thursday suggestion of Stockings for Veterans Drive, is aimed at helping those veterans who may be feeling invisible, hopeless and forgotten. Nobody wants to feel like that and we certainly don’t want our veterans to feel that way. So, how can you help?
Black Funeral Home is hosting the third annual Stockings for Veterans Drive. Filled stockings can be dropped off through December 11th at the funeral home at 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro. These stockings will be donated to a homeless shelter for veterans in Pittsburgh.
Stockings should be filled with:
- deodorant
- soap
- toothpaste
- toothbrushes
- hats
- gloves
- socks
- scarves
- hand sanitizer
- crossword and word search books
- playing cards
- stamps
- stationery
- pens and pencils
Make plans to support the Stockings for Veterans Drive. Fill a stocking or multiple stockings with the necessary items and know that you will be helping a veteran who deserves to be treated with dignity, respect and honor. This is the least any of us can do for a veteran.
