Please provide a short description of your business and what you do.
Grove Manor Nursing, Rehabilitation & Personal Care is a nonprofit long term care company affiliated with the Allegheny Region of the Churches of God. Our Mission statement sums up pretty well what we strive to do every day with our residents, families and staff.
Grove Manor is a non-profit facility affiliated with the Churches of God, and committed to the Christian vision of hope and healing.
We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of each unique person, that our residents are providentially entrusted into our care, and that we are called to share in Christ’s compassion and ministry to them.
Our mission at Grove Manor Nursing Home is to offer quality and holistic care to our ill and aged residents, and to provide for them a loving and compassionate environment, attending carefully to their physical, spiritual and emotional needs.
Our aim is to ensure a comfortable and well maintained facility, a high-quality food service, an array of professional health and therapy services, a variety of social and recreational activities and a Biblically based, interdenominational spiritual ministry.
What is the story behind your business or how it got started?
Depending on who you ask our company either started in the late 1960s or the early 1800s. Because Grove Manor is rooted in the church our company developed into what we are today through the visioning of missionaries looking to care for people in their senior years. The corner stone of the Grove Manor facility is dated 1971 so we are currently celebrating our 50th anniversary.
What is the service that you provide that people use the most?
Grove Manor provides skilled nursing, rehabilitation services, therapy services, long term care, and Personal Care at our beautiful facility called The Pines attached to Grove Manor.
When is your busiest time / season?
While we experience peeks and valleys in referrals we have a pretty consistent busy time all year around.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your business?
Grove Manor is a part of a larger corporation called Grove Manor Corporation that owns 5 entities in Western Pennsylvania.
Can you tell us about a memorable or favorite customer/client experience?
There are so many great memorable and favorite experiences at Grove Manor. Maybe sharing our start will help people understand why we are the way we are today.
In the early 1930s a retired pastor was found living along the banks of a river in a shanty. Of course, the 1930s was a hard time for many Americans let alone retired folks. The church saw this and said to itself, “If we call ourselves Christian yet let one of our own live like this, what are we doing?” In answering that question, it started a movement within the Churches of God to find ways to reach out and care for people that were the most vulnerable in our society. In many ways that retired Pastor was our first resident.
How has COVID-19 affected your business?
Because we are in the healthcare world COVID-19 has been very hard on us as a business and more importantly our residents and their families. We are required to follow the Department of Health and Human Services, and CMS rules and regulations. Therefore, we had total lockdown at the start of this pandemic. We had positive cases in our building and worked and prayed hard to keep everyone safe. We were lucky to get the vaccines for our residents and staff and we are very much looking forward to a time when we get to see all of the families again.
How can the community support you now and going forward?
Grove City and the surrounding communities have been amazing to Grove Manor and The Pines. We could not ask for better support, love, and care than what we receive daily from these communities.
