On Thursdays, we offer ways to give back in the community. This week’s Give Back Thursday suggestion is to Spread Kindness! Read on for more details.
Mister Rogers was a beloved person. Everyone’s favorite neighbor is a term often used to describe him. He spread kindness through his television program and inspired youth to do the same. If you grew up watching Mister Rogers, you felt loved and knew the importance of loving others. His gentle demeanor and soft voice were a comfort to many. Whether their home life was happy or not, a child could look forward to time spent with Mister Rogers. Through puppets, life lessons, stories and imagination, Mister Rogers spoke to every child and let them know they were special.
The significance of 143
Mister Rogers held the number 143 in special regard. He said it took one letter to spell “I”, four letters to spell “love” and 3 letters to spell “you”, thus 143 stood for I love you! In honor of this and in celebration of all that he was, Pennsylvania celebrates 143 Day in PA! On the 143rd day of the year, May 23rd, everyone is encouraged to spread kindness as Mister Rogers did. This year, we are encouraged to celebrate a full weekend of kindness. So many acts of kindness can be done over the entirety of a weekend!
For this week’s Give Back Thursday suggestion, we encourage everyone to Spread Kindness. Start today by putting together a plan to spread kindness all weekend long. Are there neighbors you can help? Could a friend or family member use some cheering up? Are there small tasks you could do that could make a difference for the community or in someone else’s life? Think of all the ways you could spread kindness. Be intentional and be loving. Be like Mister Rogers today and every day!
