For this week’s Give Back Thursday, we suggest you help to Paint the Town Purple! What? Yes, that is right, we encourage you to turn our community purple. Well, not literally with paint, but with decorations! This week’s suggestion of a way to give back to our community with good deeds and supportive actions, will be one near and dear to everyone’s heart.
You would be hard pressed to find a person who hasn’t been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether they have personally been diagnosed, had a relative, friend or neighbor diagnosed, everyone has a connection to cancer. This terrible disease comes in many forms. There are so many different types of cancer, as well as varying stages and forms of treatment. Regardless of what type of cancer someone has, it is a difficult diagnosis. This is true for the individual and everyone who cares about them. Thankfully, they can receive information, support, and so much more from the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society’s lifesaving work is supported through fundraising done by Relay For Life. We are very fortunate to have our very own Relay For Life of Grove City. While the main event for Grove City’s Relay For Life has been canceled for this year due to the pandemic, there are other ways you can support their work. From July 20th – 25th, you can help the Relay For Life of Grove City Paint the Town Purple in support of the fight against cancer! Grove City will become purple in honor and remembrance of those who have been affected by cancer.
Businesses are encouraged to take part in the Paint the Town Purple campaign. They can decorate their storefront windows, main entrance, building, and/or landscaping. They can even add special messages to marquee signage to help spread the word. Creativity is encouraged. Purple bows can be purchased for a donation to Relay For Life and can be used to enhance your decorating. Relay For Life cut outs are also available upon request by emailing amylynn.clark@cancer.org. These can be used within your place of business to help raise funds in support of the American Cancer Society through Relay For Life of Grove City. Residents are also encouraged to Paint the Town Purple by decorating their homes, porches, windows and/or landscaping.
To make the Paint the Town Purple campaign even more successful and fun, there will be prizes awarded! These will be for the top residential and business entries as voted on by the community. Be sure to take pictures of your decorated business or home. Then, post them to the Relay For Life Grove City PA Facebook page. You can also email them to amylynn.clark@cancer.org. The community may “VOTE” for their favorite displays online at the aforementioned Facebook page.
All supplies can be picked up at the Grove City Borough Office during normal business hours. To register to participate, or ask questions, contact the Paint the Town Purple coordinator Lori Boshaw at 724-992-3307.
Alright, let’s do this! Grove City, this Give Back Thursday suggestion is your official invitation to Paint the Town Purple! Please support Relay For Life Grove City as they support the American Cancer Society!
