It is time for another weekly suggestion of something to do locally. This week’s What To Do Wednesday suggestion is Local Olympic Fun! Read on for more details.
Who doesn’t love the Olympics? To watch athletes who train and compete with hopes of winning Olympic gold, is fascinating. Many of the athletes competing have been training their entire lives with this goal in mind. How many things have you trained your entire life for? Most of us sit in awe when watching the Olympics. Usually, we will think someone surely deserves to medal, only to find out the announcers and judges differ in opinion with us.
For this week’s What To Do Wednesday, we suggest Local Olympic Fun!
With the 2020 Olympics, postponed until now due to the pandemic, we are watching athletic greatness. This has obviously inspired this week’s suggestion. Grab a group of friends or family members and have your own Olympic fun. Organize a “friendly competition” with events that are similar to those in the Olympics or are special to your group. Olympic events like track and field, swimming, volleyball and more, are easily modified to suit our abilities. Or, perhaps your group would like to try disc golf, corn hole and other “games” that are not traditional Olympic events. Choose what events are right for your group’s abilities and desire for fun.
Remember local places that might fit into your plan. Do ask for permission and/or make arrangements where necessary. Examples of local places include: Grove City YMCA, Anytime Fitness, Wise Strength and Fitness Center, Memorial Park, Hunter’s Farm, Grove City College, Grove City High School, and more! Make a plan of the events you will include and where they will be held. Consider who will be the judges. Will you use people from your group not competing in a particular event? Or, will everyone compete in every event and you get additional people involved? Perhaps you have friends or family that are not able to compete, but would be happy to serve as judges. There are so many possibilities to consider.
At the end of the day, we just suggest having fun together! On this What To Do Wednesday, we encourage Local Olympic Fun with an emphasis on FUN! Get your group together and go for GOLD! Speaking of gold, don’t forget about your Olympic medals. You can make your own medals. Or, you could support a local business like Wendell August. Their coasters and ornaments could make great medals.
