Every Thursday, we offer up ideas of ways people can give back to the local community during these trying times. Many are looking for ways to make things just a little better for someone else. We applaud this concept, and simply hope to guide people to find the right fit for giving back.
This week’s Give Back Thursday is focused on our Grove City Community Food Pantry. This organization exists to provide to those in need through the distribution of food and necessities. During these current times, many have found themselves laid off or lost their jobs completely. Due to this, the Grove City Community Food Pantry has seen an increase in numbers of clients being served. With an increase in clients being served, goes an increase in items being distributed.
How can we help? Over the past few weeks, the Grove City Community Food Pantry has been collecting $20 gift cards to local grocery stores like County Market. These can still be purchased and sent to the Food Pantry for distribution to clients to augment what is distributed by the Food Pantry. Another option is to send a monetary donation to the Food Pantry or make an online donation at www.comm-foundation.org/impact-funds and simply pick Grove City Foundation and put “Food Pantry” in the additional notes section.
What other ways can we help? You can purchase additional items when you are grocery shopping, now if you are able, or in the future when you are able, and plan to donate them to the Grove City Food Pantry. You can call them at 724-458-5208 to find out if there are specific things they are especially in need of, or to make sure someone is physically able to receive your donations. You can also go to their Facebook page to see if they have currently listed needs.
If you are not able to financially assist right now, but are looking for a way to assist the Food Pantry, you could make cards that they could give to clients that just let them know that someone cares, offer a smile, or a word of encouragement. They don’t have to be signed, they can be anonymous, but they might make the difference in someone’s day!
Finally, we’d like to remind you of a blog post we shared last week from Armstrong for their Breaking Bread Virtual 5K, from May 20th – 30th. This benefits local food pantries and soup kitchens, including the Grove City Community Food Pantry. Participants can walk, run, or bike at their own pace. To learn more about the event, visit ArmstrongOneWire.com/BreakingBread and get registered!
We hope this blog post has helped you as you look for ways to Give Back on Thursdays, and every day!
