On Mondays we like to shine a spotlight on one of our Chamber Members. This week’s Member Feature shines that spotlight on the Grove City YMCA! Read this Q&A to find out more about this local organization and Member of our Chamber family!
Please provide a short description of your organization & what you do.
The YMCA makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities to learn, grow and thrive. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the YMCA nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.
What is the story behind your organization or how it got started?
The Grove City branch started its mission work in the Grove City Armory focusing primarily on the community’s youth; it was not long before we realized our full outreach and potential impact to be able to serve other populations. Today, the YMCA employs 175 professionals and support staff who provide services to more than 21,000 children and adults annually.
What is the service that you provide that customers use the most?
We believe in offering programs as diverse as the people we serve. Which means an unparalleled selection of classes and activities—everything from cooking club for youth, to swim lessons and summer camp—is out there, just waiting for you and your family to explore.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your organization?
In the year 2020, 1,208 children, teens, families, and seniors in our community received scholarships for summer camps, youth sports and memberships, through the YMCA’s Financial Assistance program.
Can you tell us about a memorable or favorite member experience?
There are so many impactful stories, it’s hard to choose just one. I love it when we receive hand written notes from members expressing their gratitude toward our programs and services. We treasure each and every one of them.

How has COVID-19 affected your organization?
COVID-19 has created challenges in what seems like every area of our lives, and the Y is not immune. Despite the grim financial impact of the pandemic, the Y has no intention of swaying from its mission to strengthen all in the community. The Grove City community needs the Y now more than ever, and nothing will keep us from that. Over the past year, the YMCA provided child care for emergency workers and first responders, passed out holiday dinners to seniors in need, hosted several food drives, started a virtual fitness program for all members and more!
How can the community support you now and going forward?
Please consider supporting the Y in many different ways whether joining our member community, volunteering for events and programs, or donating to financially support our community. We need your support now more than ever before. To donate: https://frgc.recliquecore.com/donate/
