Please provide a short description of your business and what you do.
We are a local, family-owned trash company who proudly services thousands of customers in Mercer County and the surrounding areas. We offer trash and recycling services to residential and commercial customers, as well as roll-off boxes. More recently, we began to offer electronic waste and HHW (household hazardous waste) pickups.
What is the story behind your business or how it got started?
Tri-County was purchased in 1975, and we have been growing ever since.
What is the service that you provide that customers use the most?
Waste disposal services
When is your busiest time?
Spring and summer – due to cleanups, construction, and home improvement projects.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your business?
We run many of our trucks on CNG (compressed natural gas). Gas emissions from landfills are captured and converted into a useable form of gas, which allows us to power our fleet in a more sustainable and responsible manner. The use of CNG helps improve air quality and public health by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
How has COVID-19 affected your business?
We are an essential business, so we operated through the entire pandemic. Many of our commercial customers were shutdown, so that area of our business slowed. In turn, more people were stuck at home, so the residential side of things went crazy. We had some of the heaviest bulk cleanups we had ever seen.
How can the community support you now and going forward?
A lot of work goes into the daily operations of our business not only for the employees out handling the trash, but also for the employees back on site. People need to understand that the trash business is completely necessary, not only to allow people to get rid of their waste, but also for the health and safety of the community.
