For this week’s Watch Wednesday recommendation, to bring a little kindness to your life, we suggest enjoying old episodes of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in celebration of 143 Day in PA! When is 143 Day in PA you might ask? It is always celebrated on the 143rd day of the year. For 2020, that date is May 22nd which is coming up at the end of this week!
We all have neighbors. Some have neighbors that live closer than others, and some have neighbors they like more than others. But one neighbor was known as everyone’s favorite neighbor, Fred Rogers. He brought kindness, compassion, and love into the homes of every child that watched his show. In Pennsylvania, we celebrate 143 Day in honor of Mister Rogers because of his love for the number. He regularly used 143 as his code for “I Love You” simply based on the number of letters that make up each of those words.
With May 22nd quickly approaching, we felt it was fitting for this week’s Watch Wednesday suggestion to be about Mister Rogers. Every person, regardless of age, should watch at least one episode of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in their lifetime. To watch episodes, enjoy him singing songs, or even to visit the places of the show, simply go to www.misterrogers.org and start enjoying everything this wonderful site has to offer. More episodes are added every other week, so check back often.
Perhaps this week’s suggestion will lead you to remember with fondness the days of your youth watching this show, or maybe it will give you the opportunity to introduce your own children or grandchildren to this wonderful show that truly made each child who watched it feel special. Why? Because Mister Rogers told every child they were special just by being them. What a good feeling, a very good feeling!
